Alesis ADAT HD24XR Recorder The Alesis ADAT HD24XR
has the same specifications as the Alesis ADAT HD24 but runs at 96kHz samplerate
and 24-bit AD and DA converters with over 113dB of dynamic range. It can
be used for professional studios and home studios as well as video post production
work. It integrates very easliy into existing ADAT setups. The 24 analog inputs/outputs are
1/4" TRS balanced type. It uses low cost IDE hard drives that can be
removed while the system is up and running (Hot Swappable). This is a real
time saver as you can just unplug a harddrive from the system and plug
another one in without having to turn the system off. As with all ADAT
interfaces you can connect this via the 3 onboard ADAT light pipe interfaces. You
can connect it to your computer audio editor that is equipped with an ADAT
interface (RME-Audio, Aardvark, Echo, and other sound cards). When the system is run at
the 88.2kHz or 96kHz sample rates the LightPipe uses S/MUX mode where only 12
tracks can be sent through the interface (4 tracks per Light Pipe). When used
at the 44.1k or 48kHz sample you get 8 tracks per light pipe (24
tracks). You can transfer audio via the onboard Ethernet port to your computer (PC
and MAC). This allows you to record and playback audio via your computer digital
audio workstation. The Ethernet port allows the HD24 to be connected as a stand-alone
FTP server with its own IP address. This can be setup from a router.
It allows multiple computers to access the files on the machine. From the computer's
end the songs appear as FOLDERs while the audio files are in the WAV
or AIFF format. It has a very flat frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz
and a dynamic range of greater than 103dB (AD DA Converters). Obviously this is
when the system is run at the 24-bit depth. When recording at 16-bits the
dynamic range is somewhere around 80dB (96dB theoretical). It has very low distortion of
about 0.0003 % total Harmonic distortion which is incredibly low. You can change the
pitch from -200 cent to +100 cents which is about a whole tone down
and a half tone up. Change the pitch also changes the speed. It does
not do pitch shifting but rather playback rate changes. The HD24 and HD24XR both
use the ADAT FDK format on the hard drives. This is to keep the
file fragmentation down to a minimum. A 10 gigabyte Low Cost IDE hard drive
with give you about 45 minutes of 24-track, 24-bit, 44.1kHz recording/playback. You can synchronize
upto (5) HD24's together for an incridible 120-tracks of recording and playback. It also
comes with internal editing features that allow you to cut, copy, paste, and track-move
with undo. It has a large multiLCD and editing buttons on the fron panel
or you can use the Alesis LRC remote control that is included. Features:
